I was out doing a little holiday shopping with my sister-in-law tonite {hi Raz!} at Target. We were just about to check out when I spotted this absolutely darling little girl's dress.

Isn't it so cute?! Hand beaded. No joke- hand beaded. Guess how much? Can anyone see the price tag?

WHAT? We're at Target. There are bunches of bananas and boxes of fish crackers for sale not 15 feet from this little gem. One hundred dollars for a little girl's dress at Target.

Oh wait, here's another cute one right by it for the bargain price of $79.99. What a steal. It too is darling, but since when did Neiman Marcus decide Target was a great place to sell gold plated dresses and cashmere sweaters for toddlers?!

Am I just getting old? Does anyone else see something crazy wrong with these pictures?! The cream color dress was the last one on the rack too. Which means there are probably 7 or 8 little four-year-olds wearing dresses that cost more than my entire outfit. {Including my cute red checkered jacket I got at Seagull book for $15.} I hope the grandparents footed the bill for those bad boys.

Thanks for humoring me while I rant. $100 dresses for little girls. At Target. Thank heavens my daughters weren't with me. It would have been a long explanation detailing what chores my kindergartner could do to earn enough money to buy this dress. “Well, let's see sweetheart, you could detail the car, shampoo the carpet, dry clean Dad's nice shirts, babysit your siblings for a year.. and well, yep, that ought to do it. Good luck.” That'd go over well.

I was there yesterday and saw the exact same dress and did the exact same thing! I loved the dress too! But I don't even spend $100 on a dress for myself!

  2. Christy says:

I noticed it, too! Definitely not "Target prices." Maybe I'll think about it at 70% off after Christmas! I did see it in someone's cart, though, so someone must be interested.

  3. Melissa says:

That is sad to me. If I was looking for a $100 dress I wouldn't be shopping at Target in the first place. I go to Target because I expect to find good quality cute clothing that is a good price!

Oh my goodness, that is outrageous! Let me tell you, this post had me laughing out loud. You are hilarious! Gold plated dresses… too funny! Thanks for the laugh.

SO glad I'm not the only one who thought this was insane! I picked up that dress, put it in my cart without checking (I mean it's TARGET for heaven sakes), and almost passed out when the cashier said $106! NUTS.

I do not mean this in an offensive way, but Target is where rich people go slumming. There is a cross-section of people shopping there who would jump all over the brand name. They will never sell a lot at those prices, but they also don't have to with those margins. That's why there's not a lot on the rack. The marketing team at Target is actually quite brilliant. Todd Odham, Mossimo, Liz Lange, Issac Mizrahi, Giada DeLaurentis, Shawn White, Gwen Stefani, Nate Berkus…it has worked for them before and will work for them again with Neiman Marcus. Me, on the other hand, I'll stick with Circo and Cherokee.

This post is weeks old by now, but just an interesting side note that I saw this pink dress marked 70% off today…

Anyone else notice anything wrong with this picture? It came yesterday in the latest MyMagazine from Smith's. I think I laughed for a good five minutes.

Do you have a black light in your kid's rooms?
Is there some form of toddler Rave trend I'm not aware of? No?

Poor freaky child now has a glowing diaper AND glowing teeth… I see therapy in his near future.

Happy Friday everyone!

Those teeth are a lot brighter than the Pull-Up! *Ü* I have to say, I get a little grin every time I see a diaper ad or walk past the aisle because for a while now WE ARE DONE! I never got one kid trained before the next one came along, so I did diapers straight for 15 years. When my littlest one mastered potty training, I rejoiced … and still do!
