Organizing My Coupons!

Something I like about couponing is that everyone seems to put their own spin on it. You can take a simple coupon and use it several different ways with several different outcomes. Going along with that are the variety of ways you can organize your coupons. I like organization. I need organization! So with that in mind, I've already re-organized my coupons several times over the years. MoneySavingMom keeps hers in a box. KrazyCouponLady is crazy! LOL! Check out her binder method here. I can't imagine lugging that thing around!

So, on to my method. I carry ALL of my coupons with me when I shop, so I need something portable. I also don't like the idea of spending a lot of money on my coupon-organizing method, so this is what I've come up with. I have a small tote in which I carry my 3 coupon organizers, wallet, calculator, cell phone & water bottle.
I have the organizers categorized in sections, essentially- dry food, non-dry food and toiletries. I like to clip and organize because in doing so, I find I almost memorize what coupons I have. Really! I find it saves time at the store because I know exactly what I'm looking for.

I found these larger sized organizers on clearance at Kmart for $2! What a steal! I love that they hold the long coupons so well. Seems like we're getting a lot of “over sized” coupons lately.

And yes, I typed it all up. I love the neat, clean look. See my tote below. I just got it- my mother-in-law bought it for me. So nice of her.

Oh, and look how official I am! These are my business cards! Having a graphic designer as a father-in-law sure is helpful. I've given out a few cards in the store- yes, it feels a little weird, but it's also fun too!

How do you organize your coupons? What method works well for you?

We’re organizing twins! I have three 13 pocket standard size expandable files and they’re always in my tote for when I head out. I thought about trying the binder method but wanted something that would slide into my bag. The expandable organizers are perfect for that!

LOL! You’re right Summer! How funny. i thought after posting this that other “super coupon moms” might think i’m crazy for not using a binder, but I just don’t want to haul it around! You have a fun site- I love your Crazy Coupon Lady video!

I tried the expandable, but I kept bursting the seams! So far I’m liking the binder. But it’s pretty new.
You are so blessed by your in-laws…A beautiful new tote AND business cards. My MIL, less than stellar. I’m jealous.

It is always fun to see how other organize their coupons. I agree, I don’t know how people can lug those HUGE binders wherever they go! I am with you on the small expanded file folders. My difference is that I organize my coupons by expiration date versus category. That way I am sure to use the ones that expire in May before they expire and so on! So easy. But I do need to get another file folder for my non-food items (that I just keep in envelopes for now). And I totally agree that by clipping and organizing I get to a point where I am memorizing what coupons I have so when I see a deal, I know whether or not I have a coupon to go along with it.
