Have you all heard about the new App called UDOT Walking School Bus?! I have been hearing bits and pieces lately, but I finally got the scoop!! This is such a great idea!
Here are some FAQ's:

What is a Walking School Bus?

A Walking School Bus is a group of children walking to and from school with one or
more adults. It can be as informal as two families taking turns walking their children to school – or as structured as a planned route with meeting points, a timetable and a
roster of trained volunteers.

A Walking School Bus helps to:

Increase daily physical activity for children and adults in the neighborhood
Increase the safety of pedestrians in the neighborhood
Reduce traffic in and around the neighborhood and school
Increase community cohesion by helping neighbors get to know one another

Benefits

Walking to school increases concentration. Studies show that kids who exercise before school do better on tests. Walking to school also reduces the number of cars and amount of pollution around schools.

Addressing Safety

Safety is vital when walking to and from school. There are several steps involved, including selecting the safest route, having an adequate number of adults and equipping participants with safety skills.

Selecting a safe route can be simple or complex depending on the distance and school location. Be sure to refer to your school's SNAP Map for the safest routes to school. If you don't know how to access your school's SNAP Map, ask your principal to direct you.
