A few weeks ago, I came across an online consignment store for kids called thredUP. They have thousands of gently used clothing items for children. I have browsed through items a few times and I have been pretty impressed! It seems as though they are very picky about the condition and quality of the clothing that they accept, and most of the items are name brand. I like the fact that you can sort by size, color, price, and category, which makes the website just as easy to navigate as an actual consignment store! The prices might be a little higher than what you would see at a local consignment store, and some of them seem pretty expensive, especially for the higher-end name brands, but most of the Carters/Old Navy/Children's Place items are very reasonable, especially for younger children.
The main reason I have hesitated to purchase from thredUP before has been the $40 minimum they require for free shipping – it doesn't save much money to buy a used item for $3.99 if you have to pay $6-$7 for shipping! However…..for the rest of October, thredUP is offering free shipping on all purchases – no minimum required! Just enter the code “SHIPOCT12” at checkout and get your shipping completely free for the rest of the month!
I just purchased a few items for my 2 year old – a few weeks ago when I pulled out the bin of hand-me-downs from her older sisters, I realized there were only a couple pairs of long pants that survived! I bought 5 pairs of pants and only paid $22, which I feel was a pretty good deal for the items that I got especially since I didn't have to leave home or search around for more than a few minutes to find these deals!
Here are a couple of examples of the types of items available:
