As I write this, I can hear the sweet sound of my three boys fighting, and my house looks like the aftermath of a Texas tornado. So what better time to write about New Year's resolutions than now? I have been thinking a lot about how I want to improve in 2016. I'm always up for personal development, but sometimes it's easier said than done. Maybe if I share this I will hold myself more accountable! And I thought it might help some of you too. So here's my main 5 that I want to work on:
1. Spend Less
Remember when I wrote about paying off all our debt besides our house? Well, we still don't have any debt, but our spending has become (a little) out of control. Especially after the holidays. Man, sometimes it's just hard to stay on budget. So how I will be spending less is budgeting (BIG TIME), couponing, and avoiding the store. Okay, just kidding on the last one because I obviously have to shop! But, I need to make more lists and stick to them. For the month of January, I will be doing a blog series all month long about how to coupon, budget, save money, and even make some money on the side!
2. Date Your Spouse
I don't know about you guys, but this often gets pushed under the rug at my house. Many times it's just a pain to find a babysitter, but it is so important to date your spouse! It is important to get away from the stresses of kids, housework, jobs, money and just go out for fun. For the month of February (in honor of Valentine's day) I will be blogging about fun and frugal ways to date your spouse!
3. Be “Present” For Your Children
Shameful moment here. How many of you spend time with your kids, but are not really “with” them. As in, being on your phone or tablet all the time? I've been guilty of this many times, and I want to change that. Sometimes it's hard, as I find being on my phone a way to de-stress from the day, but it is OH SO IMPORTANT. I want to spend quality, fun time with my kids. I know they will be grown before I know it, and may or may not cry about this fact a lot. Seriously, time goes SO FAST.
One of my favorite quotes about motherhood is this:
“Motherhood is not a hobby, it is a calling. It is not something to do if you can squeeze the time in, it is what God gave you time for.”
4. Preserve Family Memories
I am so good at taking pictures, but do I actually have any of those pictures in my possession? No. Well some, but I want to do better about printing pictures. I have been meaning to make Chatbooks forever. (If you haven't heard of Chatbooks, they are 60-page instagram photo books for only $8. Use code: 9QC6XLW6 to get your first one free)
My most prized possessions are the photo books I have made of my family and children.
5. De-Stress/Find Time for You
This spawns off a tear-filled conversation I had with my sister. Guys, motherhood is hard. It is not something that most can just float happily through 24/7. As my sister talked to me crying, wondering why she felt so stressed and worn out all the time (and I've felt this way plenty of times too), I thought–It is so important to first, rely on God to help you through, and two–make time for yourself. It is not a selfish desire. It is a need. I think as mothers and women we need to find things to do that are fun and stress-relieving! It can be as simple as going to the store alone, with no kids in tow. I believe loving yourself and make time for you, will make all the above resolutions easier to achieve.
Here at Utah Deal Diva, I also will be doing a blog series all year long that has to relate to these resolutions. Starting in January, I will be writing a lot of articles about how to save money, coupon, and even make money! I think it will be something you will all enjoy!
What are your New Year's resolutions?
Happy New Year and have fun and be safe tonight!
